500 Points - Warhammer 40K Battle Report
Mission: Deadlock (Maelstrom of War)
This is my third 500 point game now in a row. We've really taken a shine to them, I wonder if that feeling will continue after this game.
This is Vindicare's first time on the table top for me. I was really looking forward to using his rules as well as seeing his digital camo on the battlefield. More on that camo in the link below.
Our 5 players rolled off to see who was fighting who. We had 2x 1v1 fights going on with one person sitting out the first game.
My possible opponents were Tau, Blood Angels and Chaos Space Marines. I rolled CSM. Not good.
Really simply deployment here. Vindicare on the 2nd floor of a left building with a Veteran squad on the ground floor. This Veteran Squad had my Pysker.
The other Veteran squad deployed on the ground floor of a similar building on the right. This squad at the Lord Commissar with it.
A very simply deployment from the Chaos Space Marines too. A bike squad in their deployment zone and another in reserve. The photo shows one bike squad after taking a loss from the Vindicare.
The Chosen and Chaos Lord infiltrate due to their Warlord trait and deployed out of via behind the large Tau style building.
For those interested you can get those buildings from Micro Art Studio http://shop.microartstudio.com/tauceti-windtrap-p-953.html
With Chaos failing their seize roll, Guard get things started.
Vindicare targets the single bike squad and easily wounds the Nurgle bikes with a 2+ Turbo Penetrator round. A lowly grunt biker looks out though and saves the squadron leader.
Nothing else is in range so the Veteran Squads move up 6" and the turn ends.
With so few models turns are quick. The bike squad moved up and started putting shots into the Veteran squad on the right flank. Some died.
The Chosen rounded the corner and unloaded their Bolt Pistols. They then made their charge into the ruin.
The ensuing assault was a blood bath. All but two Guardsmen died, the two Melta Gun guys. The Lord Commissar had accepted a challenge from the Chaos Lord and lost. Thats my Warlord gone.
The two remaining Melta made their initiative test and fell back, but not off the board.
My Guardsmen after the Chosen charged and killed my Warlord plus 8 regular Veterans. Bad times. - Turn 1 (Chaos Space Marines) (Image 2 of 2)
With one Veteran squad now jus about destroyed and running its up to the assassin and the remaining 10 man Veteran squad to save the day.
The Pysker uses Psychic Shriek and kills three Chosen which felt amazing. Even at leadership 10 that was a nice result. The Las fire and Melta from the remaining Veterans killed the rest of the Chosen which left the Chaos Lord in the open.
The Vindicare uses a single round, that if it wounds causes D3 wounds. This was gamble as the rifles is still AP2 but it wounds like a normal Sniper Rifle on a 4+. And he fails. The Chaos Lord is left out in the open with 2 wounds.
With the assault over the CSM Warlord is in the open. His Chosen are picked off by Psychic Shriek and Las fire. - Turn 2 (Astra Militarum) (Image 2 of 2)
The other bike squad now arrives from reserve and fires bolters in the rear of the Veterans. This kills the Pysker and Meltas as they were nicely placed at the rear. Bye bye.
From the front the other bikes charge into the Veterans and the Chaos Lord does the same. The Guardsmen manage to survive and remain locked in combat.
The other bike squad also moves forward toward the remaining Veterans. - Turn 2 (Chaos Space Marines) (Image 2 of 3)
The final bike squad arrives from reserve and Outflanks using the Lord's Warlord Trait. - Turn 2 (Chaos Space Marines) (Image 3 of 3)
With the Imperial Guard's Veterans now dead from the bikes and Chaos Lord the Vindicare descends and charges the Chaos Lord.
Both are locked in combat now with the bikes baying for blood near by.
So I am going to wrap it up here, but I believe this actually went on till turn 4! The Vindicare and Chaos Lord remain locked in combat until the Vindicare finally manages to kill the Chaos Lord.
That 4++ save is really handy!
The bikes then come in with their hammer of wraith and finish the Vindicare. The Guard are tabled.
Fast and destructive against infantry these guys were able to command the table and kill effectively.
Hammer of wraith is also a nice little boon too and was the final blow against the Vindicare.
My list sucked. I wanted to play the Vindicare but it just doesn't work at 500 points. He is 150 points which is too costly at this level and it also meant by troops were without transports.
I will save Mr Vindicare for bigger games.
A short game and I don't think my list ever really stood a chance.
The Vindicare is too much and you sink a lot of points into a model which can only really kill a single model effectively per turn. Which is fine at higher point levels as you have a lot more other stuff to use to kill massed infantry or vehicles. But at 500 points he is way too expensive.
Still, first tabling and enjoyed it!
